Augustine Lofthouse (George Clooney) is a lonely scientist, tormented by elements of his past, living at the Barbeau Observatory in the Artic Circle. He must do his best to prevent a group of astronauts, headed by Sully (Felicity Jones) from returning home to Earth, after a mysterious global calamity alters the course of civilisation as we know it. A visually impressive movie that had been released to Netflix this past Christmas weekend.
Starting in the 1980’s, a young man is seen meeting and consequently killing a teenager before taking the identity of his victim – the FBI are sworn in by the French Canadian police in an attempt to catch this eventual serial killer, who continues to cause havoc in the region. Illeana Scott (Angelina Jolie) must do her best to track down and stop the killer while also faced with emotional challenges too. This murder mystery film has recently appeared on Netflix and is certainly worth the watch.
After Cory Lambert (Jeremy Renner), a skilled hunter, finds the dead body of a local native American girl out in the middle of the cold, harsh terrain of the Wyoming wildlife, the town enlists the help of an FBI agent to try and uncover the truth behind what seems to be a mysterious cold blooded murder. Haunted by his past, Cory prioritises solving this mystery in hopes of fighting his own struggles from the past. A fascinating thriller set against the beautiful backdrop that is Fremont County, Wyoming.
In anticipation of a family reunion around the time of Christmas, four generations of the same Cooper clan come together for their usual annual festivities. Upon each making their way to the gathering however, an unfortunate series of events, along with unexpected visitors, turn the night on its head, forcing many of them to revaluate their own life as well as their family bonds. Not the most cheerful and upbeat Christmas film this season, but one that provides a fairly festive and authentic festive feel.
G.W McLintock (John Wayne) is a wealthy rancher and well respected member of his community, that uses his power and influence in the territory he lives to keep the peace between many different parties, including farmers, ranchers, corrupt government officials and Indians. He must continue to do this while anxiously waiting for the return of his daughter, Rebecca (Stefanie Powers), while also trying to keep tensions calm with his wife, Katherine (Maureen O’Hara). Not the most action packed and suspenseful western of this era but certainly worth a watch.
After witnessing a murder and consequently arresting Joe Burdette (Claude Akins) for his actions, Sheriff John T. Chance (John Wayne) must enlist the assistance of three men to combat any incoming threat they may face when trying to prevent him from being freed. The Sheriff must do this while also juggling a blossoming romance with a passing gambler that goes by the name of Feathers (Angie Dickinson). A really impressive and well-made western movie that should be regarded as a must watch for any fan of the genre.
