The Tomorrow War (2021) – Review

The entire world is in disbelief and pure shock, after a small group of time travellers arrive from the near future and alert people to the fact that mankind is losing a global war against an unknown, yet deadly, alien species. Their only hope is to rely on everyday civilians to fight in the future and hopefully triumph against the evil that has been inflicted on the planet. An interestingly unique story that has a fairly long runtime, but at the same time is more than worthy of a watch. The Tomorrow War is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

The Ice Road (2021) – Review

When the remote Katka diamond mine, collapses in the northern regions of Canada, a skilled ice truck driver called Mike (Liam Neeson), along with a small team, front a near impossible rescue mission over the dangerous and frozen ocean, to deliver the necessary equipment to save the lives of the trapped miners. Along the way, the crew face some unexpected problems, along with some predictable ones too. It’s worth noting that The Ice Road was recently released on Amazon Prime Video, and probably isn’t the worst release of 2021, but at the same time, it certainly isn’t the best.

Sicario 1 (2015) – Review

Kate Macer (Emily Blunt), a young and somewhat inexperienced FBI Agent is recruited onto a covert government task force, which has been formed to assist in the escalating war against drugs on the border between the United States and Mexico. Given very little information about the methods and eventual targets of the task force, she soon comes to the realisation that their means of doing things are extremely unorthodox. A widely favoured film that was originally released in 2015 and landed a sequel not long after that.

Apocalypto (2006) – Review

Set around the time of Mayan civilisation, a young man’s journey is followed after his peaceful tribe is forcefully attacked by strangers, who were seeking slaves and a large amount of people for human sacrifice. Jaguar Paw (Rudy Youngblood) hides his wife and young son in a deep cave nearby, before being captured himself. He must then fight to survive and return to save his family. A massively successful Mel Gibson picture that centers around a subject that many filmmakers would try to avoid.

Tenet (2020) – Review

John David Washington stars as a secret agent recruited by a mysterious organisation called Tenet, weaving his way through a twilight world of international crime on a mission to prevent Andrei Sator (Kenneth Branagh) starting World War 3, thus changing the course of humanity. An unbelievably hyped movie that has finally hit the big screens over the past week or two, but a complex one that definitely requires a second viewing to be fully appreciated.

Project Power (2020) – Review

On the streets of New Orleans, Louisiana, a pill that gives its taker unpredictable superpowers for five minutes begins circulating. Upon this happening, a local cop must team up with a teenage dealer and former soldier, fuelled with a personal vendetta to take down the group responsible for its creation and circulation. Another pretty impressive Netflix production that’s easy on the eye and spectacular to watch in patches, but perhaps lacks any real substance to warrant a second viewing anytime soon. Project Power is now streaming on Netflix.

Bone Tomahawk (2015) – Review

An elderly Sheriff, along with his deputy, acquire a posse to hunt down and rescue their own town’s people after a group of cannibalistic “Troglodytes” cause chaos in Bright Hope and capture innocent citizens along the way. One of those captured was the wife of a local rancher, who consequently joins the gang on the hunt for revenge, despite a heavily injured leg. Enlisting with the trio is also an experienced, and equally as confident, gunslinger who felt partially responsible for the events that took place in the town. An at times entertaining thrill ride that takes a different approach to modern day westerns.

The Last Days of American Crime (2020) – Review

Sometime in the near future, the American government plan to send out a signal that will make it virtually impossible for any citizen to commit an unlawful crime – consequently, a small team form and plan to execute one final heist before the signal takes effect. On a whole, a movie with a pretty interesting and unique premise, but not one that materialised into anything worthy of a repeat viewing or recommendation.
