Run All Night (2015) – Review

After reluctantly killing the son of his best friend in New York City, former mobster, and hitman Jimmy Conlon (Liam Neeson) has one night to figure out where his loyalties lie – with his estranged son, Mike Conlon (Joel Kinnaman) or his lifelong friend and fellow mobster, Shawn Maguire (Ed Harris). An engaging thriller with plenty of action injected to keep the majority of viewers engaged. It’s worth noting that Run All Night is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Moonfall (2022) – Review

A mysterious force knocks the moon from its intended orbit around Earth and directs it on a collision course to change life as we know it. With very little time to act before the impact will potentially annihilate the Earth’s population, Jocinda Fowler (Halle Berry), Brian Harper (Patrick Wilson) and KC Houseman (John Bradley) undertake a last-ditch mission into space to save civilisation. Overall, very watchable but not something that will need revisiting anytime soon. It’s worth noting that Moonfall is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Killing Them Softly (2012) – Review

Jackie Cogan (Brad Pitt) is a hired enforcer that has been tasked with restoring order after a group of chancers decide to rob a highly protected poker game between local gangsters, causing the local criminal economy to collapse. Criticised by many critics as being long winded and slow in nature, Killing Them Softly is in my opinion, an underrated flick that is more than worthy of a watch. It’s worth noting that Killing Them Softly is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Gold (2022) – Review

Set in the not-too-distant future, a drifter known only as Man One (Zac Efron), finds himself traveling through the desert with another man, known only as Man Two (Anthony Hayes), before stumbling across a golden nugget that could change both of their lives forever. The duo hatch a plan for one of them to protect the nugget while the other goes and collects the equipment needed to excavate the loot – can the protector endure the harsh conditions the desert presents? Gold certainly starts and ends well but suffers a little with a slow and uneventful midpoint. It’s worth noting that Gold is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

All the Old Knives (2022) – Review

Two CIA Agents and former lovers, Henry Pelham (Chris Pine) and Celia Harrison (Thandiwe Newton), are drafted back together years after a failed and traumatic rescue mission that involved the hijacking of a plane by international terrorists. Henry is sent to interview Celia and quiz her on her part of the mission, with the pair discussing the case over dinner. Through multiple perspectives, timelines, and interviews, Henry, and Celia hope to find out what truly transpired that day. This spy thriller is certainly one to watch, but not if you’re hoping for a night of fiery and intense action. All the Old Knives is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.

Deep Water (2022) – Review

Vic van Allen (Ben Affleck) and Melina van Allen (Ana de Armas) are a wealthy couple with a young daughter, struggling in a seemingly loveless relationship, only held together by the bond of marriage and messiness of a potential divorce. Melinda is an attractive and daring woman that insists on pushing the boundaries with multiple affairs, but these infuriate her husband, who begins to take stern action. An unusual thriller that could have been much better than what eventually transpired.
