Two CIA Agents and former lovers, Henry Pelham (Chris Pine) and Celia Harrison (Thandiwe Newton), are drafted back together years after a failed and traumatic rescue mission that involved the hijacking of a plane by international terrorists. Henry is sent to interview Celia and quiz her on her part of the mission, with the pair discussing the case over dinner. Through multiple perspectives, timelines, and interviews, Henry, and Celia hope to find out what truly transpired that day. This spy thriller is certainly one to watch, but not if you’re hoping for a night of fiery and intense action. All the Old Knives is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Vic van Allen (Ben Affleck) and Melina van Allen (Ana de Armas) are a wealthy couple with a young daughter, struggling in a seemingly loveless relationship, only held together by the bond of marriage and messiness of a potential divorce. Melinda is an attractive and daring woman that insists on pushing the boundaries with multiple affairs, but these infuriate her husband, who begins to take stern action. An unusual thriller that could have been much better than what eventually transpired.
Junior (Tye Sheridan) is a boy growing up on Long Island, seeking to find a father figure to replace the one that abandoned him shortly after birth as well as doing his best to please the rest of his family. Spending a large amount of time at his uncle’s bar, Junior begins to listen closely to all the patrons and their stories, learning on a daily basis before leaving for Yale University and becoming a writer. April 2010 saw one of the most devastating natural disasters to hit America, after an offshore drilling oil rig called the Deepwater Horizon exploded and caused a catastrophic oil spill, resulting in a multitude of deaths. This dramatisation follows Mike Williams (Mark Wahlberg) and his crew, as they try to tackle the horrendous event that was thrust upon them. He, along with the assembled team, devise a plan to break into the bank and take the vault, while the staff are seemingly distracted by a football match being played and broadcast on the big screen in the town center. Papillon is a remake of the original 1973 release that starred Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman.
