Ani Fanelli (Mila Kunis) appears to most people as a New Yorker that has it all – a well-paid position at a magazine company and a dream wedding to her fiancé Luke Harrison (Finn Wittrock) fast approaching. When the director of an upcoming crime documentary begins to explore Ani’s side of a shocking incident that occur many years ago, however, Ani is forced to confront the dark truth that threatens to expose her meticulously crafted life. This newly released thriller from Netflix doesn’t quite tick all the boxes, but at the same time it’s certainly not the worst way to spend an evening.
Set in the not-too-distant future, a drifter known only as Man One (Zac Efron), finds himself traveling through the desert with another man, known only as Man Two (Anthony Hayes), before stumbling across a golden nugget that could change both of their lives forever. The duo hatch a plan for one of them to protect the nugget while the other goes and collects the equipment needed to excavate the loot – can the protector endure the harsh conditions the desert presents? Gold certainly starts and ends well but suffers a little with a slow and uneventful midpoint. It’s worth noting that Gold is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Two CIA Agents and former lovers, Henry Pelham (Chris Pine) and Celia Harrison (Thandiwe Newton), are drafted back together years after a failed and traumatic rescue mission that involved the hijacking of a plane by international terrorists. Henry is sent to interview Celia and quiz her on her part of the mission, with the pair discussing the case over dinner. Through multiple perspectives, timelines, and interviews, Henry, and Celia hope to find out what truly transpired that day. This spy thriller is certainly one to watch, but not if you’re hoping for a night of fiery and intense action. All the Old Knives is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
Vic van Allen (Ben Affleck) and Melina van Allen (Ana de Armas) are a wealthy couple with a young daughter, struggling in a seemingly loveless relationship, only held together by the bond of marriage and messiness of a potential divorce. Melinda is an attractive and daring woman that insists on pushing the boundaries with multiple affairs, but these infuriate her husband, who begins to take stern action. An unusual thriller that could have been much better than what eventually transpired.
A highly skilled assassin known only as Six (Ryan Gosling), is part of the deep-cover Sierra program constructed by the CIA and is widely regarded as the best in the business. However, after a mission goes wrong, Six finds himself on the run from his own employer, with sociopathic former agent Lloyd Hansen (Chris Evans) at the front of the queue when it comes to trying to track down Six. This big budget, highly anticipated Netflix release hit our screens on the 15th July 2022 and is certainly one to watch.
It’s the summer of 1969 in Los Angeles, California, and a fading television star named Rick Dalton (Leonardo DiCaprio), tries his hand at gaining success in the movie business, along with his long-time friend and stunt double, Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt). The pair begin to slog their way through an industry that is quickly becoming alien to them, while later becoming unwittingly entangled in the infamous Charles Manson family saga in the process. In a year of top tier releases, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood may be the best of the bunch.
