Chisum (1970) – Review

As one of the original founders of the town of Lincoln, John Chisum (John Wayne) is increasingly worried as Lawrence Murphy (Forrest Tucker) moves in on the local stores, bank and general land, using questionable means in the process. Chisum, along with a fellow rancher, tries to use the law to stop this from happening, but confrontation starts weighing in on the feud, which then involves characters such as Pat Garrett (Glenn Corbett) and Billy the Kid (Geoffrey Deuel). A visually appealing movie that features an effective storyline too.

McLintock (1963) – Review

G.W McLintock (John Wayne) is a wealthy rancher and well respected member of his community, that uses his power and influence in the territory he lives to keep the peace between many different parties, including farmers, ranchers, corrupt government officials and Indians. He must continue to do this while anxiously waiting for the return of his daughter, Rebecca (Stefanie Powers), while also trying to keep tensions calm with his wife, Katherine (Maureen O’Hara). Not the most action packed and suspenseful western of this era but certainly worth a watch.

Rio Bravo (1959) – Review

After witnessing a murder and consequently arresting Joe Burdette (Claude Akins) for his actions, Sheriff John T. Chance (John Wayne) must enlist the assistance of three men to combat any incoming threat they may face when trying to prevent him from being freed. The Sheriff must do this while also juggling a blossoming romance with a passing gambler that goes by the name of Feathers (Angie Dickinson). A really impressive and well-made western movie that should be regarded as a must watch for any fan of the genre.

The Searchers (1956) – Review

After three long years, Ethan Edwards (John Wayne) returns home a veteran of the American Civil War, only to embark on a multiple year quest of revenge and retribution in hopes of finding his abducted nine-year old niece. Who’s responsible? Chief Scar (Henry Brandon) and his fellow Comanche, who have been seeking their own revenge for the murder of their people. A superb throwback to 1956 with this classic western movie with one or two comedic moments thrown in there too.
